Batman Meets Lobo As The Newest Dark Knight, The Batman Who Frags

As if Lobo wasn’t wild enough as a character, the Main Man will be meeting his Dark Knight counterpart in Death Metal, known as the Batman Who Frags.

Lobo is finally coming onto the scene in DC’s Dark Nights: Death Metaland the Main Man is set to make quite the entrance in Death Metal #5 from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. However, spinning out of that issue will come Dark Nights: Death Metal Infinite Hours Exxxtreme! #1, which will see Lobo doing what he does best: being the Main Man and Ultimate Bastich as a deadly bounty hunter. Not only that, but Lobo will be facing his own evil Batman counterpart, the Batman Who Frags.

Lobo was created in 1983 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen as an alien bounty hunter from the planet of Czarnia. Initially, Lobo wasn’t in many stories until the ’90s, where he was revamped as a parody of hardened characters in Marvel Comics like the Punisher, serving as the anti-hero space biker he is today. Lobo has an impressive healing factor on par with that of Marvel’s Wolverine, and is also incredibly strong. Riding the Space Hog that allows him to travel the cosmos, Lobo uses all kinds of guns and the finest high grade explosives his bounties can buy. However, he does favor a large chain with a gutting hook when he chooses to get up close and personal with his targets (which is often). While he’s briefly been featured in prior issues of Death Metal, Lobo will be making his true debut in its fifth issue, and it will only get more extreme in a new one-shot coming this month.

Dark Nights: Death Metal Infinite Hours Exxxtreme! #1 will be coming from a team of writers and artists, with Frank Tieri, Becky Cloonan, and Dale Eaglesham confirmed to be onboard. A six-page preview (below) was released by GamesRadar, revealing that Lobo will be after a bounty when he meets the Batman Who Frags, a Bruce Wayne who apparently injected himself with Czarnian DNA. Here’s a synopsis from DC Comics, the cover, and the preview pages:

Pull up a chair, ya bastiches—it’s time for Uncle Lobo’s Infinite Hour! It’s your chance to let the Main Man Lobo-tomize you with familiar yet freaky stories of the DC Universe, exactly as he remembers them: with blood and guts and exxxtreme gratuitous violence! Tell yer comics guy to put you down for alllll the copies!

It’s possible that Lobo and the Batman Who Frags could be after the same bounty, which means that they’ll no doubt have to deal with one another first if they want to get paid. It should be really interesting to see who wins the fight the two Lobos will inevitably have in the one-shot. Will it be the original Main Man, or the Dark Knight remix of the Ultimate Bastich? In any case, the 48 page one-shot is for sure going to be a must read for Lobo fans, and the Main Man seems on track to become a pivotal character going forward as Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Dark Nights: Death Metal continues.
