Will Netflix release The Christmas Chronicles 2 during the 2020 holiday season? In November 2018, the streaming service premiered the original franchise-starter, an action-packed comedy directed by Clay Kaytis. The Christmas Chronicles earned favorable reviews amongst critics and general streamers, and so holiday movie enthusiasts have been buzzing about a sequel.

The Christmas Chronicles stars Kurt Russell as Santa Claus, whose sleigh is spotted by siblings Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) on Christmas Eve. The kids inadvertently take a magical ride across the United States, and eventually cause Saint “Nick” Nicholas to lose control of his beloved reindeer. With little time left to deliver presents, the trio work together with the assistance of Santa’s team of elves. Written by Matt Lieberman, The Christmas Chronicles focuses on the renewed bond between Kate and Teddy, who previously lost their father in a tragic accident.

Netflix officially announced The Christmas Chronicles 2 in September 2020. The sequel will be directed by Christopher Columbus, who produced the first franchise installment and has strong industry credentials. In pop culture, Columbus is best known directing the ’90s classics Home AloneHome Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Mrs. Doubtfire. During the 2000s, he also helmed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Columbus began his movie career by writing the ’80s classics Gremlins and Goonies.

The main cast for The Christmas Chronicles reprises their roles for The Christmas Chronicles 2. Russell and Hawn return as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, respectively, while Camp and Lewis once again play the Pierce siblings. Kimberly Williams-Paisley also returns as Claire Pierce.

New cast members for The Christmas Chronicles 2 include Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Deadpool 2), Jazhir Bruno (Atlanta, The Oath), Tyrese Gibson (Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6), and the iconic singer Darlene Love (Lethal Weapon franchise).

The Christmas Chronicles 2 on Netflix follows Kate Pierce, who visits Mexico and gets transported to the North Pole, along with the son of her mother’s boyfriend, Jack (Bruno). There, the kids learn about the history of Santa’s Village and the Christmas Star that protects them. The sequel’s main conflict involves a scrooge-type character called The Belsnickel (Dennison), who aims to ruin Christmas forever. The Christmas Chronicles 2 trailer released in October 2020.
