Creepshow has a holiday special planned for December with Anna Camp and Adam Pally, following the Creepshow Halloween Animated Special on Shudder.
As if one Nightmare Before Christmas wasn’t enough, A Creepshow Holiday Special is planned for this December to counteract any burgeoning seasonal cheer. The special comes from the same creative team behind the recent TV series based on a Stephen King anthology movie of the same name from the 80s.
The show is also an anthology series: each of the six hour-long episodes includes two short horror narratives. Some of the stories are adaptations of King’s work, some adapt short stories from other writers, and a few are original scripts. Like the movie, the TV show connects the vignettes via the simultaneously creepy and campy character “The Creep,” a ghoulish, hooded figure who pulls the audience into his book of terrifying tales. With season 1 already under its belt, the show faced production delays filming season 2 due to COVID-19 that prevented it from airing around Halloween as intended. Showrunner Greg Nicotero and his team came up with the idea to release A Creepshow Animated Special as a consolation for disappointed fans.

A Creepshow Holiday Special will air exclusively on Shudder on December 18, per Bloody Disgusting. Unlike the Halloween special, the holiday special will be all live-action. The hour-long episode consists of only one holiday-themed story in two parts, rather than two shorts. Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) and Adam Pally (The Mindy Project) will star in the special. “Shapeshifters Anonymous” is based on a short story by J.A. Konrath about a werewolf support group. Santa also gets himself involved in the melee somehow, as Nicotero implied in a statement:
The Spirit of Christmas is alive and well in true Creepshow fashion. Reimagining how we look at the holidays and Santa Claus with an outrageous ensemble cast, a myriad of creepy crawlies and a few thrills and chills shouldn’t be missed.
Creepshow season 2 is meant to have six episodes, and it seems the two specials do count toward the season total. Fortunately, season 3 is already in development. A Creepshow Animated Special featured voiceovers from Kiefer Sutherland (24) and Joey King (The Kissing Booth) in two stories about a man who gets stuck on a deserted island and a girl whose family road trip takes her to an undead circus. Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Keith David (Platoon, Halo), and Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser) have been cast in “Pesticide,” an episode about an exterminator who makes a deal with the devil. In another episode, “Model Kid,” a young boy’s model monster sets have horrific terms and conditions.
In Nicotero’s words, the “Shapeshifters Anonymous” cast is indeed “outrageous:” Camp and Pally are both hilarious actors who will likely bring some humor to whatever existential crisis Pally’s character experiences regarding his lupine transformation. Both the Creepshow movie and TV show combine horror and comedy, and A Creepshow Holiday Special will hopefully be no different. Marilyn Manson and Ted Raimi were also recently added to the season 2 cast. The remainder of Creepshow season 2 will air on Shudder sometime in 2021.
