The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby is defending her marriage to her step-grandfather, as she says it was the “right” thing to do.
Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is the newest addition to the Housewives franchise, and it’s already bringing the drama. Housewife Mary Cosby made headlines for her marriage to her step-grandfather. But according to the new Bravo star, marrying her late grandmother’s second husband was the “right” thing to do.
Mary is among the premiere cast of RHOSLC. She, along with Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, Whitney Rose, Jennifer Shah, and Meredith Marks are the ladies set to introduce Housewives fans to the snowy slopes of Salt Lake City, UT. The city is known for its large Mormon population, as it houses the church’s headquarters. While some of the ladies work hard to follow their religious beliefs and strict practices, others pride themselves on being “Mormon-ish,” independent thinkers. Mary describes herself as a Pentecostal First Lady who inherited her family’s empire of churches, restaurants, and more. Her inheritance came by way of marrying her step-grandfather after her late grandmother passed away.

While speaking with The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice, Mary opened up about her marriage after the RHONJ star couldn’t help but ask. “You’ve made it. You know what I mean,” Teresa said in a clip shared by LouandReality. “I’m like busting through with this grandfather, you know this grandfather story. ” Mary went on to share how unbothered she is by the criticism. “I don’t care. It’s not my blood,” she declared. “It was a family situation/choice that I knew was right. So, they’re coming at me like I’m incest and I’m gross and I married my grandfather, which sounds ridiculous.” Watch the full clip below:
Word of her inter-family marriage hit the press over the summer. While other housewives have remained mum on the topic, fans are expecting it to get brought up in the new season. “Well, it does sound ridiculous,” Mary admitted. But she went on to say, “It’s my story and I’m not ashamed of it. And I feel like I’d rather kept my grandmother’s empire together than to have listened to the people and make them just be lost in life.” She went on to add how long the marriage has lasted. “It was 22 years ago. We’ve been married 22 years. So, you understand,” she told Teresa, who was visibly taken aback.
The OG housewife showed her support for Mary’s ownership of the matter. “If that’s what’s in your heart, you stand up for it. That’s what you gotta do and no one can knock you down.” It’s clear that fans can expect Mary to shine this season.
