Blended families can be tough to navigate. Blake was trying to include them in the marital decision and the three boys were clearly on board.
At the end of October, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani announced their engagement to the world. Before The Voice coach popped the question, he asked Stefani’s three sons for approval.
In 2015, Gwen finalized her divorce from Gavin Rossdale. The rock ‘n roll couple’s 13 year marriage ended as a result of infidelity. Gwen caught Gavin cheating on her with their children’s nanny, Mindy Mann. Despite the way things ended between the two singers, they continued to co-parent their three sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo. Around the same time Stefani went through her break up, Blake was going through a divorce with Miranda Lambert. There were also cheating accusations involved in their split, except the allegations came from both sides. Shelton has been married twice, but never had any children. The country star has expressed regret for not starting a family earlier on in his life. Although, Blake has had the chance to be a father figure to Gwen’s three sons.

As reported by Yahoo, Blake proposed to Gwen at his ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Before popping the question after five years of dating, Shelton made sure to get the go-ahead from Kingston, Zuma and Apollo. “Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission. Her family very much approves of him. He’s an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic. The proposal was a surprise,” a source close to Stefani said.
On various occasions, Gwen has opened up about Blake’s relationship with her kids. On Father’s Day, Stefani wrote, “Thank you for helping me raise these boys!!” During an interview in 2019, the L.A.M.B. fashion designer was asked if she thought Blake would be a good father. “He is a good dad, actually, he’s been helping me out a lot, so I literally get to the point where I’m like, ‘You gotta get home, I need help.’ It’s hard. I got three boys,” Stefani answered. Shelton has also expressed his admiration for Gwen’s sons. “They’re so damn funny. It’s just my first time being around it and it’s easy to fall in love with those kids. They’re pretty special,” the country singer said.
