After Cheryl and AJ spoke with Entertainment Tonight about their elimination, People reported that Cheryl was not too happy with the scoring the couple got on their last dance. The long time dancer revealed that she was disappointed by the results and felt the judges were scoring in a way that felt “not consistent.” She and the boy bander performed a Viennese Waltz to Queen’s “Somebody to Love,” and received a score of 23/30. “There’s rules in ballroom, and as far as I’m concerned this is a ballroom show, I thought,” she told the publication. Cheryl added that she was also frustrated as she had planned the choreography for her and AJ’s semifinal routines. “Normally I’m not that confident going in, but I was like, ‘For sure, there’s no way [we’ll get eliminated],‘ “the dancer added. AJ chimed in saying he realized he made a mistake during their performance Monday night, but felt he recovered very quickly. He added that this was the first time the pair made a mistake in their routine since the beginning and felt they “handled it was like a couple of pros.

Even though AJ will not longer be competing, he appreciated the opportunity to be apart of the show. “I’ve always been one to bow out from whatever the situation is with ease and grace and with a lot of gratitude…I’ve made a lot of great friends here, both on the stage and off the stage.” he said of leaving the competition. While AJ did not make it to the semifinals, he made it seventh place overall, which is still an amazing accomplishment for someone who has never ballroom danced before. The singer also gave a shout out to Cheryl, revealing he felt grateful for having to go through this experience with someone like her. Even though AJ is not too thrilled to be leaving, he is looking forward to getting back to his two daughters and his wife, Rochelle.

Cheryl and AJ may feel sad about being eliminated, but the friendship these two cultivated was one they will cherish forever.
