Disney+ posted the trailer for its upcoming biographical sports drama Safety, based on the life of Clemson football player Ray McElrathbey.
The trailer for Safety, an upcoming sports drama from Disney+, has been released. Since launching this time last year, Disney’s relatively new streaming service has slowly but surely been attracting new subscribers with exclusive offerings including original content and, of course, Disney classics. Safety is based on the life story of Clemson football player Ray McElrathbey. Reginald Huldin directed the script written by Randy McKinnon and Nick Santora, with Mark Ciardi producing.
The new trailer for Safety, released by Walt Disney Studios, gives a new look McElrathbey played by Jay Reeves, who’s garnered some experience in the world of pretend football with an arc on another football (TV) drama, The CW’s All American. The cast also includes Thaddeus J. Mixson, Corinne Foxx, Matthew Glave, Hunter Sansone, Amanda Warren, and James Badge Dale. The full Safety trailer can be seen below:
Disney has had success with inspirational sports dramas in the past. A few Disney Channel Original Movies took place in sporting arenas including The Luck of the Irish, Double Teamed, Gotta Kick It Up!, Full-Court Miracle, and/or Jump In!. Safety promises to be a heartwarming tale of obstacles overcome, perhaps with a little more grit than Disney’s movies aimed at a younger audience.
Safety‘ synopsis reads: inspired by the empowering true story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McElrathbey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities. Aided by his teammates and the Clemson community, he succeeds on the field while simultaneously raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr.
