Miles Morales Includes Peter Parker’s Oldest Supervillain

Spider-Man: Miles Morales allows players to take on various enemies through hologram training fights, including Peter Parker’s second villain ever.

In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, players can take on many famous villains from the comics, and one of these encounters includes Peter Parker’s second-ever enemy: Vulture. It’s a nice piece of Spider-Man history, and one that fans of the comics (and the Marvel’s Spider-Man video games) should appreciate.

Although Chameleon was technically Spider-Man’s first bad guy, Vulture made his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #2 in 1963 and marked the first supervillain in the series. This is because Vulture was the first Spider-Man villain to have actual superpowers. Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, has been around nearly as long as Spider-Man’s Peter Parker, which makes the supervillain an important character to the series.

Since his debut in Amazing Spider-Man, Vulture has gone on to appear in countless comics, TV shows, and even movies . The character was also famously played by Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming, bringing the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. The Vulture was featured in the first Spider-Man game on PS4 as well, but the version that appears in Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a little bit different.

Where Vulture Is In Spider-Man: Miles Morales

By the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Vulture is defeated (again) and sent away. However, Peter Parker’s iconic supervillain can be fought by Miles Morales as well in the sequel. This is due to the hologram training fights available in the game. The Vulture is the final hologram fight, and is voiced comically by Peter Parker, who’s away during the main events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. During the fight, which acts as both a training session and seemingly as a cathartic moment for Peter, the original Spider-Man reveals to Miles what happened when Vulture attacked him on his first day of school at ESU. It’s both an ode to the first Marvel’s Spider-Man game and Spider-Man’s comic book history in general.

For people who’ve only played the games, seeing the Vulture again may not mean very much. However, for longtime fans of Spider-Man, it’s more significant. The supervillain has been around almost as long as the web-slinging superhero himself, and it’s great to see such a storied character reappear in Spider-Man: Miles Morales – even if it’s only as a hologram.

With Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ various difficulty settings and a New Game+ mode, this new Spider-Man game offers a lot for players to do once they beat the main story. While the hologram training missions are one of the many optional aspects in the game, it’s still a lot of fun, and with Vulture appearing in Spider-Man: Miles Morales as the final hologram fight, it’s a nice callback to the first game and Peter Parker’s long history with the supervillain.
