Former Dance Moms star and YouTube sensation JoJo Siwa is defending Mark Bontempo following their decision to split up after going public this summer.
YouTube sensation and former Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa is officially speaking out against haters of Mark Bontempo, her now-ex-boyfriend who is being harassed by fans. Siwa defended Bontempo from the criticism he has been garnering online since the two split up. She made it clear on Instagram on November 15 she did not support the bullying he was getting across the internet.
Siwa, 17, and Bontempo, 19, went public with their relationship in August. Bontempo, an aspiring musician, is the sibling of social media star Madison Bontempo. Siwa made a simple post on TikTok over the summer, introducing Bontempo as her significant other. He eventually complemented the move with a TikTok post of his own with JoJo, using the hashtag #NationalGirlfriendDay. The former couple has not divulged details about their breakup, but since their decision to go their separate ways, Bontempo has been the target of hatred from Siwa’s fans.

According to E! News, Siwa explicitly stated her ex does not deserve any malice in an Instagram comment posted this past Sunday. She explained onlookers have “no idea” what really went down in their relationship – but in a positive way. Siwa reflected on the fun the two had while they were together and all of the happiness they enjoyed along the way. She also stated she will continue to support Bontempo behind the scenes and noted that he is “not toxic.” Siwa said:
Mark doesn’t deserve hateful things like this. He deserves to have people support him…You have NO idea about mark and I’s relationship. how much fun it was. how happy we both were, and how happy we both are. We decided it’s best for us to not be in a relationship…. that’s all.
In the end, Siwa made it a point to state she and Bontempo are simply teenagers, and the bottom line is that their relationship didn’t work out. However, this does not mean the two are not friends. In fact, she stated they’re “better being friends,” and asked her fans to “relax.” In a recent video on The Fishfam‘s channel, Bontempo’s sister, Madison, shed some light on what really went on behind the scenes of her sibling’s breakup. The social media personality was quick to address the difficulties Siwa and Bontempo faced due to their busy careers and the physical distance between them. However, she noted Siwa still has love for Bontempo, and they remain close.
Siwa, who has been in the public eye for much of her young life, is never shy about sharing her feelings, and this is yet another example of her speaking her mind. Hopefully, fans take her advice and cut Bontempo some slack sooner rather than later. Needless to say, this probably isn’t going to be the last of JoJo Siwa’s relationships, or exes, for that matter.
