Shadowlands’ Most Unique Quests Worth Doing

Advertisements

The journey to level 60 in WoW involves an extended questline through the Shadowlands, with some of the quests standing out more than others.

Questing has always been an integral part of World of Warcraft, even if end-game instances and player vs player content receives more attention. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is no exception, and characters will need to journey through the five new zones within the Shadowlands in order to unlock their covenants. Although many of the expansion’s new quests are of the standard kill or collect variety, Blizzard also managed to sneak in a few more original quests for players to enjoy.

Early in World of Warcraft: Shadowland‘s “campaign” the player is teamed up with the former Warchief, Thrall. Thrall becomes frustrated with his lack of adequate weaponry and urges the player to search around for something suitable. During “A Good Axe,” Thrall first picks up a Crossbow and hilariously swings it around against enemies. He later finds a sword and, although he appreciates the blade, wonders why the Alliance are so obsessed with them. He finally settles on an Axe, although he laments that it is not made by the Frostwolf Clan. Considering Thrall is a generally serious character, it is fun to see him featured in a lighthearted manner.

In the new Shadowlands zone Maldraxxus, the player will align with the House of the Chosen, and will need to prove themselves to the group as a new recruit. In the quest “Through the Fire and Flames” players need to reach a pillar that is sitting on a rock. The catch is that the rock is sitting in the center of a pool of lava that damages the player. Although most characters can just make it if they simply swim, World of Warcraft classes such as Demon Hunters and Warlocks can also use their unique abilities in order to reach their destination. The quest also ends with the player receiving a special sword that becomes an important part of the Maldraxxus storyline.

Near the end of the Ardenweald questline, players are asked to destroy 50 enemies. This quest, called “Sparkles from Above,” uses the vehicle mechanic, which is far from new to World of Warcraft. Usually these vehicle quests involve the use of a gigantic canon, tank, or even animal. In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ Ardenweald quest, however, it involves sparkles. The player sprouts fairy wings and begins flying above the enemy, raining down sparkles that devastate opponents in only one hit. With all the death and destruction that the player character has gone through, it is good to see them have some fun with fairy magic.

In the Revendreth quest “Sign Your Own Death Warrant,” the player needs to convince a giant to enter a zone called the Ember Ward. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players are tasked with writing a letter in order to convince the giant, and are given a number of options for what they need to write. They are able to address the giant using the phrase “Well Met,” a possible nod to the original game’s human voice clip. They are also able to list absurd crimes such as “overthinking everything,” and can even claim that their rightful sentence is only 12 minutes long. The giant doesn’t actually care what World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players decides to write, so they are free to choose whatever makes them laugh.

Since questing can, at times, become repetitive, it is great to see so many interesting news quests incorporated into World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. Although some players may only care about reaching level 60 as quickly as possible, those who take their time may get the most out of the expansion’s intricate new zones.
