Niantic reveals Pokemon GO raids and spotlight hours happening in December, as well as other new features that are set to be added to the game.
Niantic has revealed Pokémon GO‘s December 2020 raids and spotlight hours, as well as other new updates coming. It was previously reported that the first wave of Kalos Pokémon are coming to the game soon, as well as other new additions such as an increased level cap.
Last week Niantic announced that it was extending Pokémon GO‘s coronavirus bonuses through next summer, in response to increasing cases around the globe. Some of the bonuses include boosted XP for first catches, increased effectiveness for incenses, and more gifts from buddy pokémon. While theoretically making the game safer for trainers, these changes also make it easier to participate in raids and level up (relatively) quickly.

With the holiday season approaching, Niantic has outlined the raids and spotlight hours coming to Pokémon GO in December. First, for raids, Niantic announced, “The Legendary Pokémon Kyurem will be appearing in five-star raids from Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Friday, January 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8).” Kyurem is the third member of generation V’s legendary Tao Trio, alongside Reshiram and Zekrom who were added earlier this summer. Niantic also added that “Mega Abomasnow will be appearing in Mega Raids beginning Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m PST (GMT −8), replacing Mega Blastoise.“
- Tuesday, December 1, 2020: Seel will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for evolving Pokémon.
- Tuesday, December 8, 2020: Swinub will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- Tuesday, December 15, 2020: A surprise Pokémon will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
- Tuesday, December 22, 2020: Snorunt will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.
- Tuesday, December 29, 2020: Snover will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for evolving Pokémon.
Lastly, Niantic closed the news by announcing that the currently ongoing, “Double Catch XP bonus ends Thursday, December 31, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. local time,” and that managing/searching for pokémon should become easier with the addition of, “a new screen will appear with recommended search terms, such as Pokémon Type, Region, Buddy Level, Shiny, and more.”
Niantic also reminded trainers of the incoming level cap increase, now allowing trainers to reach a max level of 50 instead of 40. All of these changes and additions will look to bring back Pokémon GO players who may have fallen out with the game after the underwhelming addition of Mega Evolutions a few months back. The negative reception to Mega Evolutions, combined with yet another surge in coronavirus numbers across the world, have put Pokemon GO in a tough spot, so Niantic is hoping that the Devember 2020 update helps the game bounce back.
