Funko unveiled a new line of special rainbow-colored Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney figures in collaboration with the It Gets Better Project.
Funko has unveiled a new set of rainbow-colored Marvel, Star Wars, and other Disney variant figures in collaboration with the It Gets Better Project. Funko is one of the best-selling vinyl figure manufacturers in the market, working with some of the biggest studios to create detailed collectibles of fan-favorite characters, including Marvel, DC, and Star Wars. It Gets Better Project is an Internet-based nonprofit founded by Dan Savage to uplift, empower and connect LGBTQ+ youth worldwide.
Funko and It Gets Better first partnered in March 2020 with a series of figures based on Warner Bros., Nickelodeon-Viacom, and Sanrio properties, including Batman, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Hello Kitty. Released that July ahead of Pride Month, the figures proved to be a big success for the manufacturer, with a portion of the proceeds going to It Gets Better. In Funko’s support of the LGBTQ+ community and a rejection of intolerance and discrimination, they announced a second wave of figures.

The new line of figures will see Funko partner with The Walt Disney Company to release rainbow Funko Pop! iterations of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Stitch, WALL-E, Deadpool, and Star Wars‘ Stormtrooper and BB-8. The line will also pull from the recently acquired Fox library with the inclusion of a rainbow Tina Belcher figure from the beloved animated comedy Bob’s Burgers. The figures can be viewed below.
The figures will also be part of The Walt Disney Company Pride Collection, in which the House of Mouse is working with various organizations to raise funds to support their efforts to support LGBTQ+ communities around the world. Some organizations include GLSEN, which seek to end violence and prejudice against LGBTQ+ youth in K-12 schools, the U.K.-based Diversity Role Models charity, Australia’s Minus18, It Gets Better, and Ireland’s BeLonG To Youth Services. In addition to the Funko Pop! figures, the collection includes plush figures, t-shirts, masks, and more.
It may seem like second nature to a company all about their fanbases, but the continued show of solidarity from Funko to the LGBTQ+ community is an encouraging step from the manufacturer for fans looking for more diversity in their collections. More than just a rainbow-color palette, the commitment to having both the House of Mouse and Funko donate a portion of the funds to It Gets Better Project is a promising show of support. Fans certainly have a lot to look forward to when the new Funko Pop! figures ship in June, just in time for Pride Month 2021.
